Our founder's parents are from Kalamata. Kalamata is a seaside town in the Peloponnese peninsula in southern Greece. Kalamata is famous for its olives and olive oil. Kalamata olives are almond-shaped, plump and dark purple. Kalamata olives cannot be harvested when they are green and must be hand-picked when they are black in order to avoid bruising.
In addition to the family connection to Kalamata, the concept of a financing source extending an olive branch to small businesses seems to be a good contrast to the obstacles from traditional capital sources.
